DPS adds social media tools to website

With the addition of social media tools to its website, the University's Department of Public Safety plans to make it easier for students to share crime alerts and other information with their friends and family online.
DPS announced the improvement to their website in a brief bulletin posted Wednesday.
Visitors to the site can now share crime alerts and other items through Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networks. DPS is using the AddThis platform to facilitate sharing.
The bulletin also noted that, starting in the fall, DPS will send a weekly tweet from the Twitter handle @umichpolice with crime prevention tips and other information related to public safety.
The Department's move to social media comes amidst a growing presence of the University's departments and units on Facebook, Twitter and other sites.
