A 21-year-old Engineering junior was injured in a hit and run accident at State Street and Hill Street at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. A friend of the student reports that he will likely be discharged from the University hospital today.

Small fire ignites at Art and Architecture building

A small fire at the Art and Architecture Building on North Campus Wednesday evening caused a building-wide evacuation and damaged a sculpting studio, emergency officials reported.
No injuries were reported and the building was open as of 8 p.m. Classes in the building have resumed today, but the condition of student projects in the kiln at the time of the fire is currently unknown.
Embroiled in scandal, neurology professor retires

Neurology Prof. Sidney Gilman — who was accused by the U.S. Securities and Exchanges Commission of assisting hedge fund investors in a historically lucrative $276-million insider trading scheme — has retired from his position at the University, according to a University of Michigan Health System spokesman.
University remains among top R&D spenders

Once again, the University has been named a top spender among the nation’s research universities.
The University was ranked second among U.S. universities for research and development spending for fiscal year 2011 in a report released by the National Science Foundation Monday.
